A brief history of my life: I say that the beginning of the life I have now started when I lived in Japan during my junior year of high school. I learned to speak Japanese, gave speeches in a foreign language on a moment’s notice, traveled around the country, and got to know what it is like to be an adult. I think this is a rare thing for an American under 21, and I loved every minute of it. I have traveled the world since then, and also choose to live in Brazil for close to a year with a company I worked for in 2000. For me, nothing provides me with the enjoyment of learning like travel. I think traveling makes the world smaller and connected.
My brief history in the technology field: I began my career in the technical field at Claris, then a subsidiary of Apple in 1997. I then went to RealNetworks, the company which created the Internet multimedia and streaming space and was one of the highest performing stocks on NASDAQ in 2000. I then worked at Virage, a pioneering digital media company with some of the smartest people on the planet, including Bradley Horowitz (VP Product, Google Apps) and Dave Girouard (President, Google Enterprise). Virage was acquired in late 2003, and my friend Erik Herz and I started Webcast in a Box, later renamed Box Populi in October 2003. Box Populi produced an award winning podcasting and live broadcasting device called Webcast in a Box. In 2010 I sold a majority share in Box Populi for a mid six figures amount (in the middle of the worst economic recession since the Great Depression). It may not seem like much compared to the successes of Facebook or other tech companies, but I am extremely proud of the team I built and the accomplishments I had in those six years. I am currently working at Outreach Digital as Chief Architect; in mid 2010 Outreach Digital acquired the assets of another company I created called Woven Media. I have larger goals for 2011. I am excited to learn about any opportunity which aligns with both my career goals and my goals for making the world a better place.
